1) Visit Paris and take a photo with the Eiffel tower
The “City of Love” has to be the first stop on this epic challenge. Paris is known for Romance, it’s in the sights, the language, the art and the food. It’s no wonder it’s such a popular spot for couples and proposals. The Eiffel Tower is synonymous with this city and one of the most iconic spots on the planet.
2) Have the perfect day in Venice
Venice for Lovers is a collection of essays and travel impressions about the city of Venice in Italy, written by Louis Begley and wife Anka Muhlstein. Chatsworth looks across to the low hills that divide the Derwent and Wye valleys. The house, set in expansive parkland and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland, contains an important collection of paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artefacts. 7) Spend lazy days in Santorini, Greece
A volcanic island in the Cyclades group of the Greek islands, famous for dramatic views and stunning sunsets. There are naturally fantastic beaches such as the beach of Perissa, maybe the best beach in Santorini, the black pebble beach of Kamari, white beach and red beach. Villages and towns are perched along the top of the crescent-shaped cliff of the caldera. Spend days with your partner scuba diving or snorkling, horseback riding, visiting the beaches and wineries and lazily watching the ocean with a backdrop of spectacular sunsets!
8) The Saint Anthony Festival in Lisbon
Ten days before the amazing Sao Joao festival in Porto, not to be outdone, Lisbon celebrates it’s own patron Saint. The festival is said to date back a sermon delivered to the ocean by St. Anthony in the 13th Century, when all the fish lined up with their mouths open to listen. It’s now celebrated with sardines, costumed parades, paper lanterns, coloured streamers, music and dancing. St Anthony is the patron saint of lost items, lost people and travellers but he is also famous as a matchmaker. If you and your partner have completed the other 7 items of this challenge and then this is the final test to determine if it’s true love. Women should write the name of their intended on a piece of rolled up paper and then see if it unrolls over night – indicating it is true love! For men, they must present their intended with a basil plant and a love poem!
9) Explore Edinburgh in Scotland
The Scottish capital boasts all the pre-requisites for romance making it the perfect destination for a romantic break. Spend a couple of days in Edinburgh taking in the top sites – wandering around the National Museum, visiting the castle, checking out the views from Arthur’s Seat, exploring the Old Town and taking a photo with Greyfriars Bobby. In the evening go out for a beautiful candlelit dinner, followed by a drink in a quiet corner of Hoot the Redeemer. To tick this item off the list simply explore this amazing city for at least a few hours with your significant other!
10) Relax in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland
Iceland is an amazing country to visit for a few days and perfect for a short getaway as a couple. There are numerous spectacular sights and experiences on offer but one of the best is the Blue Lagoon. A geothermal Spa, located in Southwest Iceland, almost mid-way between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik. The warm waters are rich in minerals like silica and sulfur and is enjoyable year round, even in freezing conditions. Put the Silica Mud all over your bodies, float in the mineral waters then meander your way into one of the caves slipping under the waterfall.
