Would You Rather? With Kanika & Shayan from Dose Of Life!
WOULD YOU RATHER? A series of interviews with Travellers, Bloggers, Travel Bloggers and just generally interesting people. We’ll ask a series of difficult travel questions with two possible answers. They’ll tell us what they would choose and why.
For this Article we have Kanika & Shayan from Dose of Life a travel and lifestyle blog. They are a married couple from opposite yet similar walks of life, living and working in Thailand while exploring the known and unknown.
Breaking the age old conflict between Pakistan and India, they got married in 2014 after dating for 5 years. After doing the same thing every weekend, they decided it was enough and started to inject doses of exciting activities and adventure into their lives. As their doses increased, it became a passion they knew they had to share with everyone!
Their blog is for anyone who was like them – working, stuck in a rut and wanting to try new things, explore new places and have unforgettable experiences. Although sharing travel stories from wherever they go, mostly they provide expertise on Bangkok – everything from what to do, see or eat to what to wear, pack and prepare for. Having lived there for most of their lives, giving them the experience, deep knowledge and pulse for the city. Living it day in and day out as non-Thais therefore providing unique perspectives, tips, and guides.
Now to the questions …
For the duration of a 2-week trip would you rather eat Italian food in France or French food in Italy?
French food in Italy. While we were traveling in Europe, Italy was one of our favourite destinations. We explored a lot the country but there are still many more places we want to see and if that means eating French food all day all night, why not?
Would you rather drive the Wild Atlantic Way along the west coast of Ireland or the North Coast 500 in Scotland?
While both look awesome, the wild Atlantic looks mysterious and more grandiose. We would love to drive and explore this coastal area.
The Asian Hiking Trilogy consists of Mount Fuji and two other mountains, of the other two, would you rather summit Kinabalu in Malaysia at a height of 4,095m or summit Yushan in Taiwan at a height of 3,952 metres?
We’re not big hikers but if we had to, I think Yushan. It looks more doable and the view looks cooler. At least from the images we looked up.
Having explored the street art in Chiang Mai, which city would you rather explore the street art in next Valparaiso, Chile – perhaps the best known city in South America for street art or Buenos Aires, where barren walls city-wide are transformed into building-sized murals, which are not only tolerated by the city government, but often times actively funded?
Wow, the street art in Valparaiso, Chile definitely looks way cooler. The city itself also looks fun to explore.
For a G-adventures trip which of the Jane Goodall Collection would you rather get 2 places on the 14-day highlights of Madagascar tour or the 14-day Ecuador Mainland and Galapagos Islands?
While both look and sound so interesting, we would have to go with Ecuador and Galapagos islands just because we love island hopping. Otherwise, both are fine with us.
An article you’ve written provides information on 5 ways to spend Songkran in Bangkok! For your next festival would you rather take part in the Haro Wine Battle in Spain – a water fight like Songkran lasting a few hours but with Red Wine or Sao Joao in Porto, Portugal a festival for St John during which everyone buys a plastic squeaky hammer and hit other revellers on the head?
This is where Kanika and I can’t agree. She would love to experience Sao Joao while I’m always partial to anything that includes alcohol lol but either would be fine for me. Always love to experience new things. Both festivals sound like a perfect way to meet new people – travelers and locals.
For a completely free trip, would you rather hike to the top of Ben Nevis at 1,345m the highest point in the UK followed by a weekend in Glasgow or to the top of Carrauntoohil the highest point in Ireland at 1,038m followed by a weekend in Dublin?
Ireland just simply because it seems like a less visited destination. Again no preference really otherwise.
You have a goal of visiting all 77 provinces in Thailand! After you complete this goal, would you rather your next challenge was all 47 Prefectures in Japan or all 23 provinces of Argentina?
Argentina. We always wanted to visit this part of the world. Japan would be easier though since it is nearer.
Would you rather climb to Everest Base Camp at 5,380m or Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895m?
Mt. Kilimanjaro. No reason but mainly because I would love to visit this part of the world.
Which new wonder of the world would you rather visit Petra in Jordan or the Colosseum in Rome?
Petra. We saw the colloseum (from far) while we were in Rome. Petra always looked intriguing. Definitely would want to visit there.
For Shayan, which city would you rather spend a weekend practicing your Parkour skills in – London with great city spots and easy to meet other enthusiasts around the South Bank Area or Paris which is not so far away from Lisses where parkour was developed?
London. It looks way more fun and I’d get to meet people and be part of the massive community there. Also while I’m not parkouring, I’d wanna hit the pubs and bars of London.
For Kanika, as a fan of the paranormal you tried staying in a ghost ship in Koh Chang! For your next paranormal accommodation which New York Hotel would you rather stay in – The Chelsea which has a wide variety of ghost stories, including the ghost of a Titanic survivor, Mary, a woman who lost her husband when the ship went under. She could not adjust to life as a widow, and ended her life on the fifth floor of the hotel. Today, her ghost can allegedly be seen wandering around the west end of the building, near the former entrance of the apartment where she once lived. She can be hostile toward the living, as she is said to treat them as an annoyance or The Bowery Hotel, said to be one of the most haunted hotels in the City with many incidents of everything from elevators going berserk every morning at 1 am to a female ghost dressed in white drifting through the halls. All because of its location, once home to some of New York City’s poorest residents. Along with the poverty came homeless shelters, methadone clinics, brothels, and plenty of people who met tragic and untimely ends, worse still, the hotel was built right next door to the New York Marble Cemetery!
Why is this even an option. The Bowery of course. Not only is it scarier, it seems to have a lot more history and mystery behind it.

I’ve been to Barcelona but didn’t get to experience the local food so would be nice to go back there but this time with Paul with us.
